Since its debut, in September 2015 at the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, Trio Exhibit has been making its way around the South and has finally made its way to Decatur, GA. On Feb. 4, 2016, the Georgia Center for the Book at the DeKalb County Public Library hosted an opening for the exhibit. The exhibit will be displayed in the Decatur branch, for the entire month of February, in the periodicals section.
Trio Exhibit is a multimedia project that combines three avenues of art. Its slogan, ” the chord struck between words, vision, and sound” adequately describes the function of the exhibit. 15 books are chosen and each book is assigned to a songwriter and a visual artist. The songwriter and visual artist create work based on the book. Shari Smith, the creator of the exhibit, came up with the idea when she was working with The Shoe Burnin’ Show, a stage show where authors and musicians collaborate to meld music and words. Shari wanted to add a visual component thus, Trio was born.
The exhibit showcases a range of authors, artists, and songwriters such Judith Richards, Grayson Gravas, and CMA award winner, Mac McAnally, respectively. This is the first year of the exhibit. Next year’s project is already in the works, set to premiere September 2016. Shari is proud and has high hopes for Trio Exhibit. She states, “there is something to be found in every book…there is something to be gleaned from it for your own life… “
